Floor standing patient lifts (manual or power) employ the same lift concept as the ceiling mount lift but are floor standing and moveable. The sling attaches to an arm extension that is connected to a frame that stands on the floor and has casters. Many people refer to this equipment as a “Hoyer Lift” which is actually a brand name of the oldest lift. The manual style uses hydraulics to raise the patient while the power style uses a battery to power an actuator for lifting. Floor standing patient lifts provide a method of lifting and moving that is safe for both the patient and caregiver. The weight capacities range from 450 – 750 pounds. The disadvantage of the floor standing lifts is that they are bulky and require floor space.
